Error “Smart List Will Not Export to Excel”

This error normally occurs when an end user tries to export to Excel from Smart List for the first time. It is caused by the end user not having the proper security privileges within the Windows environment. This error is easily fixed if you have access to a domain admin login and the sa login for SQL/GP.

There are two ways I have fixed this issue. I’ll list the fastest fix first.

Method 1
Log the end user out of GP. Log back into GP as “SA”. Launch Smart List and populate any search with data and chose the export to Excel option. This should launch Excel and populate it with the data from Smart List. If Excel does launch and populates with data logout as “SA” and log back in as the end user. Launch Smart List and test the export to Excel option. If Excel launches and populates the error has been resolved. If it doesn’t launch try the step below.

Method 2
Log the end user out of GP. Log the end user out of Windows. Log back into Windows as the domain admin. Launch GP as administrator and login as “SA”. Launch Smart List and populate any search with data and chose the export to Excel option. This should launch Excel and populate it with the data from Smart List. If Excel does launch and populates with data logout as “SA” . logout as domain admin and log back in as the end user. Launch Smart List and test the export to Excel option.
